TIPS:
Cold weather?
Firewave sunmask will harden slightly in cold weather and might become difficult to apply. We can make it softer but then it will not stick so well in turbulent water.
Luckily, there is a trick: When your sunmask becomes hard in the cold, apply some pressure to the surface with your index finger while gently making small circular movements. The heat of your finger, along with the pressure, will quickly soften the sunmas,k leaving a soft paste on your finger that will be easy to apply.
You can also leave the sunmask jar on your car’s dashboard to soften while driving to the surf spot.
APPLICATION:
Applying the sunmask is a bit like painting. Firstly, saturate your face with sun lotion and allow a few moments to absorb into the skin. Secondly, apply sun mask to nose, lips and cheeks.
VISUAL TEST:
The sunmask forms a physical barrier between your skin and the sun. If you cannot see your skin through the Honey Shield, neither can the sun.
REMOVAL:
FW Sun Mask is best removed by wiping with a coarse, dry towel. We suggest dedicating a small hand towel for this. Once it is covered with the Sun Mask, just chuck it in the wash with the rest of your clothing.
The Sun Mask does not stain, so you don’t have to worry about it ruining your towels or clothes.
OINTMENT:
Another special quality of Sun Mask and Barrier Balm is that you can apply it to small cuts and grazes when you go into the water. Honey is a natural disinfectant and helps keep the baddies out. However, cleaning the wound properly before you apply Sun Mask or Barrier Balm is advised since you don’t want to seal the bad stuff in.
RECYLE / RE-USE:
Firewave sunmask comes in a high-quality jars. Once empty, you can use it for storage, e.g. needle and thread for wetsuit repairs. If you have no need for it, please recycle.

INGREDIENTS:
Raw Cape Honey / Beeswax.
Legend has it that Cleopatra’s main beauty secret was to bathe in milk and honey.
Today we know that the enzymes in raw honey are antibacterial, which helps prevent acne.
Honey is also rich in antioxidants, which is an excellent treatment for wrinkles and aging skin.
Honey unclogs pores, and it is a natural moisturizer. This is the ingredient that gives our product its lovely smell and taste.
Beeswax is what makes our product stick under the harshest of conditions.
Traditionally this is done by petrochemicals like petrolatum. What a lovely natural alternative!
Coconut Oil.
Coconut oil is anti bacterial, anti fungal, moisturizing and full of anti oxidants. It is one of the most versatile natural ingredients that can be used for anything from removing scars to freshening breath. The coconut oil we use is cold pressed from purely organic nuts and contributes to our product’s lovely smell.
Canola Oil.
Canola oil is rich in vitamin E and K, which helps to eradicate skin problems like wrinkles, fine lines, acne, blemishes etc. It is used as a base in many skin creams and lotions as it makes the skin supple and glowing.
Ochre.
Ochre is fossilised clay. The pretty colours are caused by the iron oxide it contains. It is non toxic. Ochre has been used by primitive (and modern) tribes all over the world for sun protection and make up. The beautiful Himba people of Namibia uses a body lotion containing ochre and animal fat to protect them from the harsh African sun. Ochre was also mined by the early Egyptians and it is now believed that they mixed it with oils and used it as a sunscreen.
Zinc Oxide.
Non-nano zinc oxide powder is what they call a physical UV- blocker. It works by scattering and reflecting the sun’s rays. Zinc Oxide has been mined in India and used in medicines for over 2500 years. It is recognised as safe by the FDA, and used in food.
